Adoornments

Cliffs: Before baby girl even arrives, I am already being set up for my first mothering fail.

After visiting four different hospitals, it has become obvious that not only are the Brazilians big on celebrating birthdays, they’re also big on celebrating births. (Imagine!) This takes the form of elaborate signs and decorations on the hospital room door and personalized favors for everyone who visits. Ugh.

So I have a plan for some small favors (even though I’m not expecting any visitors other than my in-laws), and now I just need to decide whether to neglect the whole door thing or to come up with something homemade and, therefore, ultimately pathetic. Sometimes I wish I were crafty.

I don’t know exactly how I ended up there last night, but while thinking about this post I ran across an adorable felt piece on Etsy. If only it weren’t so expensive and didn’t have to come all the way from New Zealand. I should have thought about all of this more than twelve days before my due date.

Aww, that's a super smart title!! I had to look at it again in my feedreader blogroll after I'd read the post to notice the pun...

Nothing like peer pressure to make you feel slightly inadequate, right? That's one of the BIG reasons why I don't want to go back to live in Brazil. Sigh.

I have a suggestion if you don't want to have a bare door. I'm sure you could have your mom pick up cute letters to her name to your liking (any store has them in their baby section, check online), then you can just buy some spools of thick ribbon in matching colors and glue the letters. You could glue each separate letter to a ribbon and then glue them to a separate horizontal piece so the letters could be in different heights.

I'm NOT crafty either, so I think this would be really simple. Just a thought.
